Under A Steel Moon
Most girls she knows in her steel town slums wish for a pretty face to help them hook a man with money. Willi wishes her pretty face would go away – until it does.
Instead of hiding with the disfigurement after her accident, Willi finds inner strength she didn’t know she had and joy in voicing her opinions.
As the devastating Spanish flu sweeps through her town, Willi is challenged to keep those she loves alive, only to lose the ones who seem invincible. She realizes that survival is not the same as living — and that love, like life itself, rarely follows the path we expect. And that marrying the wrong man doesn’t have to spoil everything.

The Heart Behind the Ink
Maureen Nelson has spent her life telling stories. A journalism major with a minor in literature, she began her career as a reporter and magazine editor in Los Angeles before moving into high-profile public relations and media marketing roles in both California and Hawai`i. Over the course of her career, she has written everything from novels, feature articles and speeches to advertising copy, press materials and major marketing campaigns for brands including Hawaiian Airlines, Bank of Hawai`i, AT&T Hawai`i, Mazda Motor of America and Ross Dress for Less. She is the senior partner at Pineapple Tweed PR & Marketing in Honolulu (pineappletweed.com).
Her fiction blends commercial appeal with emotional
depth, featuring flawed, relatable characters, compelling romantic complications, and themes that resonate long after the final page. Maureen is currently seeking representation by a literary agent.
Maureen has retired from canoe racing, SCUBA diving and Hawaiian canoe sailing, but she still lives by the beach with her son and rascally dog, Barkley.
